  1. craig bonnell Says:

i found your player on elbo.ws. i can’t comment on that site (long story but in short I banned myself) but I wanted to thankyou for the code. as an incompetent music blogger things like this are essential for me thanks, again

    craig

also added it to my swedish music blog - swedeplease

  2. craig bonnell Says:

day 2 with your player, added new songs to both blogs but they’re not showing up in the palyer. any suggestions? also I have an atom feed but not rss (I think) should I have entered that url instead of just the home page?

  3. Dan Says:

Chris - RSS is the best feed, but HTML works as well. Atom is not yet supported. RSS feeds update every hour while HTML was updating every 3 hours. I just changed it so HTML updates every hour. I checked your site - it looks up to date. Is it still behind?

  4. craig bonnell Says:

everythingd fine thanks, is a shuffle option a possibility?

  5. Dan Says:

Shuffle is on the list of things to do but I can’t give you a timeframe.

  6. SR Says:

    Thanks For This! Great Player!!!!

  7. stevex Says:

Hey, love the music player. I put it on my typepad site but its not working correctly. Its only playing the first song i posted. It has to be somthing im doing wrong…… Im putting my songs here…… http://ramseypropaganda.typepad.com/music/

and this is the site here……. www.shockandterror.com

  8. SAS Radio Says:

Superb - good looking, stand along, instantaneous and easy to use. Also put it on my MySpace page. Thanks for doing this.

  9. tad Says:

really like the simplicity of the mini player, it’s great. thanks!

  10. tad Says:

question–since my ezarchive…archive is limited to 100 MB, periodically i have to remove links to some of the songs i post on my blog. will those songs eventually be removed automatically from my streampad playlist, or is there some way to manually do that? after a while, i could see that playlist getting pretty cluttered with dead links. thanks again for a great player!

  11. Dan Says:

    Hi Tad,

Do you think that Streampad should remove songs that are no longer available? I can probably detect if a song does not load and if that happens a few times, consider it dead and remove it.

If you want full control over your playlist, you can log into streampad and create a playlist that way. You can add and remove songs all the time. The one drawback to this approach is that you will have to add the song to streampad and your blog. Would you be ineterested in a way to post songs to your blog from streampad (like flickr has)?

  12. tad Says:

    Dan,
Thanks for the reply. Considering how flaky ezarchive is, it probably would not be a good idea to have songs automatically removed if they don’t load a few times.

I will look into creating playlists through streampad to get full control over what is kept and what is tossed, but I do really like how automated it is in its current form. There must be a better way to do it… If I were to remove the links entirely (currently I strike out the text but leave the link), would it (or could it) remove the songs from the playlist then?

    Thanks again!

  13. Bill Says:

I woudl love to be able to re-order the playlist on the mini-player. I’m using it as a way for potential clients to hear my film music and I want to be able to affect the order in which they listen to them.

I also think that a shuffle feature would be great.

    Thanks for this great widget!

  14. Stefanos Says:

created an mp3 folder. uploaded mp3s and it doesn’t work. can u give me advice how i can make it work?

  15. Joanna Says:

I put the music player on my blog through typepad, but I don’t know how to actually get music on it…. can you please help?

  16. Dan Says:

Stephanos - you have to post the mp3 files as links. It cannot currently scan a folder.

Joanna - you have to provide the player with a URL that contains mp3 files. So if you post mp3 files to your blog, just give it that URL.

If you don’t have any mp3 files, you can create an account inside of Streampad and search for music in the ‘Web’ section. Then save those songs to a playlist and put that playlist on your blog.

  17. Widgets Lab » GeeSee Chat widget Says:

[…] This is a bummer! 1. Customizations: There are no customizations. No size options. No color options. No options! Not to say there won’t be in the future. If GeeSee becomes as popular as I think, the custom options will follow. 2. Chatting: When your visitors are chatting in your GeeSee widget they can’t leave your site. Using a tabbed browser they can go to other sites but then miss out on the chat. What I’m trying to get at is there needs to be a “pop out” option similar to Streampad widget. 3. Chatting(part 2): There are no options to block or censor users. I don’t like censorship! but certain users can ruin a good multi threaded chat. I think other users should be able to “vote Digg style” to at least suppress the offender. […]

  18. Scottitude Says:

Great idea, too bad it doesn’t work. I entered the direct URL to the folder containing my MP3 files and it just sits there, empty, taking up space.

    Dan’s 10.26 3 part response is contradictory:

Post the MP3 files as links because it can’t scan folders? Where, In the code generator? Won’t that just play a single file?

Provide a URL that contains the files? I thought it couldn’t scan folders?

Expect to find music from my obscure, personal collection in a generic database? What are the chances that any of the downloads I’m currently (LEGALLY) sharing on my site are in the Db? Slim to none, at best.

Like I said, great idea but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

  19. Dan Says:

Scottitude - it looks for mp3’s that show up as links. So it cannot scan a folder. What is the URL you are trying?

  20. bob tomorrowland Says:

Dan - My Streampad widget is not recognizing all the mp3s at my blog, www.tomorrowland.org. I’m only sharing 10, and they’re all in the same post, so… not sure what’s going on. Please help!

Also, is there a way to adjust the song titles as they appear in the widget? With so few characters, I’d like to delete the phrase “Listen to” that appears before each song title.

    Thanks!

  21. Dan Says:

Bob - it looks like it does have all 10. Which ones is it missing?

At this point there is no way to rename the files. If you would like, You can change the names in the post, I can manually delete them in Streampad, then it will rescan and have the new names. The best format for names is song - artist.

    btw - love Roscoe!

  22. bob tomorrowland Says:

Dan - Thanks for the ultrafast response. I would soooooo appreciate it if you could manually delete the songs from Streampad. I’ve already renamed the filed per your recommendation.

And it looks like all 10 songs are appearing in the player. Thank you for providing a really handy tool. Streampad rocks!

  23. Dan Says:

Bob - I deleted the songs. They should reappear with the the new names within an hour.

  24. bob tomorrowland Says:

Thank you, Dan! You are indeed the man.

You’ve made my Tomorrowland.org a happier place. Three cheers for outstanding product support.

  25. Lindsey Loo Says:

I suck! I dont understand how to upload my mp3 songs to URL, so that i can post them to my mini streampad. Ive read everything and its like spanish to me! I am new at the code, URL, widgets, links. Can someone explain it step by step? Thank you!!

  26. Dan Says:

Lindsey - what is the URL that you are using?

Basically, you have to upload your mp3 to some server. Then link to them in a blog post by using the normal a tag.

  27. Stretchstyled Says:

Hello Mr. Streampad, great little program you got going here,…but those dead links that I cant get out of the mini player on my blog are driving me crazy. I read where I can create playlist and control this…but in the short term till I get that done, is there a quick way to get those off the playlist on my blog? Thanks man.

  28. David Says:

Hey Dan. the player looks amazing. I’m trying to get it to work on http://capital-risqueur.blogspot.com but no luck… no mp3 shows up in the player. any idea why ? file formatting ? or file names ?

Many thanks, and a happy 2007 to you !

  29. kaci abbott Says:

    Hello,

I’ve added the widget to kaciabbott.typepad.com and created a playlist on Streampad but I can’t figure out how to get the playlist to appear on my site.

    Thanks!

  30. kaci abbott Says:

    hello,

still waiting for an answer on above question.

  31. Dan Says:

    Hi Kaci,

sorry for the delay. To embed the playlist you created, click on the “share” icon under “playlist details”. Then copy the embed code and paste it into your blog template.

  32. Martin Says:

    Hi Dan

I’d love to have this cool player on my blog, but I can’t seem to make it work? I’ve pasted the code into my template and the player is visible, but I cannot figure out how to make it play any songs… I have a url link for an online mp3 that I want to feature on the player - how do I go about connecting those two? Or adding more than one song? Thanks in advance.

  33. kaci abbott Says:

    Hi Dan,

I added the “Share” code to my Typepad Typelist but the player is still empty.

    Thanks,
    Kaci

  34. kaci abbott Says:

    Hi Dan,

ANy ideas what could be wrong?

    Thanks
    Kaci

  35. Dan Says:

    Hi Kaci,

It looks like you did not provide the widget with a URL. You need to give it the location of a playlist you have created. You can give it an html, rss, xspf or m3u playlist. If you link to mp3 files on your blog, you can give it your blog’s URL and it will add those songs.

If you do not have a playlist, log in to Streampad and create one by searching for songs in the Web section.

  36. Richard Silverstein Says:

I installed the widget in my sidebar. I see it there. But it’s not displaying any of the mp3 files I’ve uploaded to my blog. What gives? Shouldn’t it be doing this immediately or does it need some time to pick them up?

  37. Richard Silverstein Says:

you have to provide the player with a URL that contains mp3 files. So if you post mp3 files to your blog, just give it that URL.

I simply do not understand what this means (nor do others in this thread as well). What is “a URL that contains mp3 files??” That doesn’t make any sense to me. I have many mp3 files uploaded to my server. They all have different URLs. How am I supposed to get all of them displayed on the widget mini player and playable?

  38. Dan Says:

Richard - in order for the widget to show your mp3 files, you need to link to them in a blog post. It is the same way you link to other web sites. So just write a post like:

“Here is a great song Start Me Up - Rolling Stones

Then the song will show up in the widget within an hour.

  39. Richard Silverstein Says:

in order for the widget to show your mp3 files, you need to link to them in a blog post.

I understand that. I have an entire blog category devoted to mp3s which contains 120 posts ea. of which has a link to a diff. mp3. Shouldn’t the mini player be picking up those links? Or are you saying that only links which I publish AFTER I install the mini player will display on it?

  40. Richard Silverstein Says:

I’m wondering if I want those existing 120 mp3 files to display on the mini-player do I need to add all 120 links to a single post & publish it? If I do that, I don’t want that post to display to the public, so perhaps I could publish it as ‘private.’ That way the public won’t visit the post but your player will pick them up.

I’m hoping I don’t have to do that because finding all 120 link names & pasting them into a single post will be a pain in the ass.

I believe you should configure this so that I can pick up existing mp3 links as well as new ones. Though I don’t know if/how this is technically feasible.

  41. Richard Silverstein Says:

Another feature that would be cool is to allow blog visitors not only to hear the mp3 file via the player but to also offer a link to the blog post fr. which the file came.

The object for me is not just to offer folks the ability to listen to my music, but to have them read the posts I’ve written about them. I do a lot of research on my posts & want to educate people about the world music I offer in my blog. Plus, I think it might encourage to buy the music I feature.

  42. Richard Silverstein Says:

I’ve just tried publishing a new post with 10 working mp3 file links & none are displaying in the mini player. It seems to work for some of yr users. But it doesn’t work for me & it appears others as well.

    I’m on a WordPress.org self-hosted blog.

  43. Dan Says:

Richard - you did not link to those files. You just added them as text.

You need to link to them like:

    Song - Artist

  44. Richard Silverstein Says:

Yes, I noticed that & fixed it. But still nothing displaying in the player. Check out my links now. I think they’re right & the way you describe above. So I’m still at a loss to figure out what’s going wrong.

  45. zanat0s Says:

my blog is http://zanat0s.typepad.com why doesn’t the player play the only mp3 that i have? please tell me

  46. zanat0s Says:

hi can u check my site and tell me what is worng ?
the player plays the mp3 like it a parody…

    http://zanat0s.typepad.com

  47. Dan Says:

zanat0s - songs must be encoded at multiples of 11.025 kHz : 11.025 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 44.1 kHz.

Most likely your song is at 48 khz. This is a flash bug.

  48. zanat0s Says:

why doesn’t it work again? i did it allright now at 22.05 Khz 64kps…
    it still has no music

  49. AD Says:

hey dan…great service. I’m using the streampad player in my blog with a link to an m3u playlist generated by a program called mytunesrss. It serves links to iTunes playlists in both rss and m3u formats but neither of them will play in streampad player embedded in my blog. When I hit play the text “1/NaN” appears in the song info area. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  50. Dan Says:

AD - can you post a link to your blog?

Are the files on a publicly available server? Are they mp3 (not acc)?

  51. AD Says:

Just sent an e-mail to support@streampad.com with the code of the widget i’m using…

  52. adam Says:

i placed the player on my blog but now have NO idea how to get it to play music. i’ve got several mp3s on my ftp ready to go, but just don’t know where or how to get it to work. i use typepad. do you have any suggestions?

  53. adam Says:

    hi dan,

i just listed some links in a post but the player is only playing the first song. any suggestions on how i can get it to play all of the songs i list?

    thanks so much!!
    adam

  54. Dan Says:

adam - I looked at your html code and you have 2 links to Ocean and 1 is blank. Just remove the blank one and it should pick it up (within an hour or so)

  55. kenshiz Says:

    Getting song name=’NULL’…what’s thatz?
& How to put new song there?
    TQ

  56. Dan Says:

kenshiz - it is b/c your links are just images. If possible, you should try and give them names like “Song - Artist”

  57. Jeannie Says:

I have a yahoo 360 blog. Most things for MySpace work in Y!360 also though, but I’m not sure if this will work. At the moment I don’t have any mp3 urls listed in any of my blogs.

I was just trying to see if I could get it to work, but when I preview the composed blog page, I see the shape of the player-just not the actual player itself. I’ve read that within an hour it should detect any mp3 urls I’ve posted.

If I am seeing the shape of the player-does this mean that it might work? I want to make sure it works before I post it. Should I then make two blogs?; one that has all the links to my mp3’s, (which I store on snapdrive.net & it works fine for putting songs in my ‘blast’), and one with just the streampad in it??

Another question-it says to link to the file-How?…do I use a Direct Url starting with http://, or the Linked Url starting with

  58. Adam Says:

    Hi Dan,

I have a question. I changed one of my links to a name “Ocean”. But, it is still showing up in the player as “Null”. Do you know how I can get the player to recognize the name now?

    Thanks,
    Adam

  59. Ganga Says:

    Hi Dan,

I uploaded 2 mp3 files to myspace and got the urls. I have given these urls in one of my posts. Streampad is picking up just the first one and displays ‘null’ all the time. The code is as follows. Pls lemme kno how to solve this and make all links appear on my streampad.

    1. Foo1 - ““Kangna-DrZeus”

    2. Foo2 - ““TereBin-Atif”

    Cheers,
    Ganga

  60. Ganga Says:

    Hi Dan,

Sorry, the code looks like this actually..

    1. foo1 - “Kangna-DrZeus
    2. foo2 - “TereBin-Atif

    Cheers,

  61. karl Says:

I added your player to my blog. I have a podcast playlist I want to add but I need to know where to add the podcast link?

  62. Andrew Cowie Says:

Sorry, I’ve read the posts above and I still don’t get it…

Can I use the mini Streampad player in my website or does it only work with blogs? I’ve embedded the code in a web page at http://www.portableprods.demon.co.uk/newsf.htm and I’ve uploaded an MP3 file to the host server so will the mini player just magically find the MP3 file and list it? I assume I need to insert the address of the mp3 file somewhere but I can’t find any instructions telling me where to put it.

  63. Andrew Cowie Says:

I’ve managed to link my music to the Streampad player but how do I remove it? I linked a test MP3 with the word “test”. I have since removed the MP3 link from my website but it’s still showing in Streampad.

  64. Andrew Cowie Says:

    Hi Dan,
are you still posting to this blog? If so, can you let me know how to delete and rename music in the Strampad widget please?
    Thanks.

  65. Dan Says:

    Andrew,

Unfortunately, you cannot remove songs once the widget picks them up. It will only hold the last 50 songs though.

If you want more control over the playlist, you can create it inside of the main Streampad site. This will allow you to add and remove songs.

  66. kool Says:

    it’s so damn kooooooooool
    i love it! tks! ^o^

  67. ed Says:

oh my god, sorry but i cant get this thing to work on my web page, i cant see any songs on my web page, anyone will to advice pls. i cant even find a proper guidance in here. anyone know where i should look.

  68. Dan Says:

ed - you have to post songs to your site. Upload them to your server (or another location) and then link to them in a blog post like you would link to another site.

  69. Matt Says:

Love it! Is there a way to customize the color/css for it?

  70. Matt Says:

Also, can it handle RSS feeds? It doenst seem to want to do a feed…

  71. Dan Says:

Matt - it should handle RSS feeds as long as they have enclosures. Can you send me a URL that is not working?

Color customization is on the never-ending todo list. I can’t give a timetable though.

  72. run dogg Says:

    cool stuff Dan…

  73. Anette Says:

this works with LiveJournal Blogs?, because I try put it on my blog, but not works, say Invalid video URL

  74. Dan Says:

Anette - I haven’t tried it on LiveJournal but as long as you can embed Flash it should work.

  75. Raymond Says:

It doesn’t work when I copy the code onto livejournal. Anyone know why?

  76. Dan Says:

It looks like LiveJournal does not allow Flash embeds - http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=14

It says some sites are allowed. I’ll see if I can get SP on the list.

  77. Rasmus Says:

    Hi,

Is it possible to make a new icon at the bottom of the player next to the two others? I would like to have a direct link to a place where you can buy the songs, that are streaming.

  78. Dan Says:

Rasmus - that is a great idea and one I would love to implement. I am not sure the best way to do it though. Would you like to indicate the place to buy? Or should Streampad try and determine that?

  79. Rasmus Says:

    Hi Dan,

I’m very glad to hear that. We would like to sell the songs via klicktrack.com, so it would be nice if it was possible for the user to indicate the place to buy. But perhaps you can do both? A “normal” function, where Streampad finds the place to buy, and an “advanced” option, where it is possible to have perhaps several icons linking to different online stores, with the user providing the html code (image and url) for the icons. I don’t know if that’s possible at all, just a thougth.

  80. Eric Hobart Says:

    Hi Dan,

Just installed the Streampad player on a typepad blog at:
    http://norwich.typepad.com/tanzania2007/

    Placed an mp3 at:
    http://norwich.typepad.com/tanzania2007/audio

I entered the second url when I created the player and used the typepad widget shortcut to add it to available typepad widgets.

I placed one mp3 in the audio directory:
    http://norwich.typepad.com/tanzania2007/audio/storycorps-tanzania.mp3

If I point a browser at the mp3, quicktime fires up and plays it.

I can see the player in the typepad blog sidebar, but it’s not bringing in the mp3 to the playlist.

    Any tips?

    Thanks,

    Eric

  81. Mei Ying Says:

I’m very happy with the player. However, how do we remove the songs from the playlist that we no longer wants? I have removed the links for those songs but it’s still reflected in the playlists.
    Thanks!

  82. adam Says:

    hey dan,

i had to remove and re-install your player on my website. that was several days ago. but for some reason, it is not picking up any of the mp3s on the blog site. do you know why this might be?

  83. Dan Says:

Mei Ying - you can’t remove songs at this point. If you really need to, then you can create a playlist inside of Streampad and add/remove songs to those.

  84. Dan Says:

Adam - the URL you are pointing to (http://www.junobaby.com/index.php) does not contain any mp3 links.

  85. adam Says:

    hey dan,

the website that the streampad is on is junobaby.typepad.com (not junobaby.com). it has many mp3 links.

    thanks again!
    adam

  86. Mei Ying Says:

    hi dan,

would that means that I can link the playlist I had created in Streampad to my blog?

  87. Dan Says:

Mei - yes that’s true. Click on the playlist and then on the share icon under “Details”. It will bring up a window with the embed code.

  89. Lily Says:

Thanks for this awesome mini player Dan! Check it out. I placed on my blog:
    http://onedayatatimebroward.blogspot.com/

What I found worked the easiest was:
    1. Registering with Streampad
    2. Creating a playlist on my Streampad account by searching for songs on the web icon
    3. Clicking on “share” while on the playlist
    4. Copying that code and pasting it as a page element on the templates tab of my blog by going to Template Tab > Add page element > and clicking on HTML/JavaScript (Add third-party functionality or other code to your blog)
    5. I gave it the title “Music” and pasted the code under “content”

    Thank you sooo much!!

so I was able to get a song on my streampad player. I found the song by doing a search on streampad. cool. got that.

now, there is a song I cannot find on the streampad search. It is called Mirror by BarlowGirl. I connected my itunes library to streampad, however, I cannot add songs from my itunes library to my streampad playlist. How come?

Can you please tell me how to upload one of my songs to the streampad player. What website do you recommend where I can upload my personal songs to and get urls for them? One that is user friendly. thanks.

    Lily

  91. Dan Says:

Lily - you cannot add music from your personal library to playlists (or the widget). You can only add music that is publicly accessible on the web.

If you are going to upload your music to a public server, make sure you own the rights or have permission from the copyright owner to do so.

  92. Lily Says:

thanks for the clarification dan. I am new to this and thought it could be done (from itunes library since I purchsed songs). that’s ok. I will enjoy the music available on the web. thanks again for the cool player! It was a great improvement to my blog. :-)

  94. Irving Says:

I been trying to get the player to read my songs but no luck. I don’t have my own server and i already try many things. I went through some free hosting servers and the links don’t include the mp3 extension. Then i tried the mp3tunes and see if i could share a playlist but not available. Its quite hard to get the player to work without your own server because all public ones i have found limit me. Anyone has any suggestions on what servers have worked. Also, Dan i saw you are doing something to upload files, right? if it is correct will i be able to share my playlist from there. Hi Dan:

Love the player - have embedded it into my blog. Only strange thing is that it hasnt picked up all the songs I have posted. I thought about linking directly to FILEDEN, but I cant seem to work out how to generate a URL for a FOLDER in FILEDEN … any advice?
    Cheers

ya player kind of worked for me but wasn’t picking up all the mp3’s on the blog. used the url for the player as http;//mashuptown.com but now doesn’t pull any new mp3 files at all.

i guess it updates only once when you make it.

too bad was really stoked to see this widget and hope it would solve a problem.

    hi there!

i wanted to put this up on my multiply site but the thing is, my welcome page does not accept javascripts..

do you have html-based codes for this part?

    thanks!

  102. Justin Says:

    Dan,
Thanks for the fantastic widget, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I too, however, am unable to get the list to update, I checked back after about 3 hours and it still is not showing the updates. My site is http://intheword.giantnoggin.com and the feed URL is http://feeds.feedburner.com/InTheWordNowListeningTo

    Thanks for your great work!

how to put song in the music box??

  104. Maarten Says:

OK I am finding the instructions you’ve provided a bit confusing so I need to clarify. It would be helpful to list the steps as follows:

Load an MP3 file onto a web site. (The file must be on a web server.)
Create an HTML page. On the page, create a list of hyperlinks to each MP3 file.
Load that HTML page onto a web server.
In the form URL box, provide the full link to the web page you just created.

Perhaps this is how its supposed to work but it doesnt and I;ve tried numerous times
